Skrâps - free crepes made out of food scraps

As part of the program of the Gothenburg Design Festival 2019, the class of the free standing course EAT - food culture, materiality & design was responsible for creating different food interventions. Our group was formed by Emil, Jesper, Kristina and me, Milena.

We decided to address the topic of food waste and came up with the idea for skrâps. We made and served vegan crepes made of fruit scraps or skräp - a typical Gothenburgian play of words.

Since the topic of the assignment was sharing, we gave away free food to engage the audience in a conversation around how perfectly good food is continuously being thrown away. We made jams and compotes out of fruits a supermarket otherwise would have thrown away; got hold of a box bike; created a theme around compost bags; made a logo and put it on signs, screen printed on aprons, printed wrapping paper, made pennants and labels for the jam jars.

On October 8th, 2019, we set up right outside the city library. It felt good to make people happy by sharing food and raising awareness on an important matter. Some people refused not to pay and donated money to charity organisations.
